Essay about Pharmacological functional organization of autonomic activity
The pharmacological effects in autonomous system usually act on the receptors of autonomic system .The drug molecules interacts with proteins in the cell menbranes of specific target cells .In this reaction, the body will produce an Endogenous chemical to interact with receptors.the pharmacological effects has been divided into sympathetic and non sympathetic effects. The sympathetic system is based on the adrenergic system and comprises of norepinephrine and epinephrine effects and is known to be sympathomimetic drug, whereas a drug that interrupts adrenergic function is a sympatholytic drug.On the other hand, the drugs affecting parasympathetic functions are explained on increasing or decreasing activity at postganglionic terminals.these drugs can be either muscarinic agonists or antagonists. The drugs which enhances cholinergic effects are called parasympathomimetic drugs, whereas those that inhibit cholinergic effects are referred to as anticholinergic drugs. In conclusion, the autonomic pharmacology is the study of interaction of drugs with autonomic nervous system.
