What are the aspects of leadership within your role?
As a Nurse Educator I have to full fill the leadership role to patients and care providers to enhance specialized patient care within established healthcare setting. Its my responsibility to collaborates with medical practitioners to incorporate nursing processes into the plan of care for a specialized group of patients. I have to maintain a high level of communicational ability to fulfill these role. Moreover i have the responsibility to fulfill as a leader to educates technical and patient care staff in the use of new equipment, supplies, and instruments; coordinates in-service training and workshops for appropriate staff.
What are the skills and attributes needed in your role that help you to be successful? What does success mean to you in terms of your position?
To become a successful Nurse educator we should possess thorough knowledge and understanding of protocol, procedures, and standards within area of nursing and they should be capable to provide operational guidance and leadership to technical staff in area of specialty. Knowledge of related accreditation and certification is also required. As an educator it is essential to assess educational needs and design and develop responsible curricula. Working knowledge of the use of established care models in the development of education programs will add more flowers for the effectiveness of the job

What are the challenges of this practice role that you have experienced?
As an educator I usually find difficulty to plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care programs.I have to put a lot of effort to plan successfully in a manner that benefits to the patients. Other thing which to be focused on as an educator is highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups. Group management or class room management strategies should be practiced in this scenario to become a successful Educator. Some may face difficulty to maintain strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment. Through proper understanding & hardwork one can overcome this scenario.
What are the advantages of this practice role that you perceive?
The advantages of becoming an educator is it provides us a great chance to assists patients and caregivers with educational needs, problem resolution, and health management across the continuum of care & also to provides direct specialized nursing services to an assigned group of patients. Specialized patient care within nursing protocols and based on evidence based practice is possible here.Through the role of a nurse educator one can improve the quality of nursing through proper monitoring of nurses & training to them in their department of practice.
What are some of the quality improvement processes that you are involved with or that are currently in place in your organization? What other QI projects need to be done and why? Are there any barriers to accomplishing these needed projects? If so, what are they, and what is the plan to move forward?
Myself is an active participant in bed sore prevention & control program as well as Safe medication management program.These are coming under quality improvement programs in our hospital.The main focus of medication management program is to maintain zero medication error & avoid near miss & sentinetal events.
in the bed sore prevention program we mainly focus on reaching 0 bedsore level & to maintain knowledge among the staff nurses about Braden scale & management of bedridden patients.
What are the legislative issues and public policy issues affecting/impacting this role/practice?
As an educaor i have to ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. If there is any problems associated with these aspect i have to face the issues. Also documentation of the patient care, i have to be checked for its accuracy, it is mainly because any errors in the documentation will become a legal issue.
What are the opportunities for influencing public policy in this role?
Nurse educators are getting a great chance to educate the public through health education & community participation. For instance, Educational programmes for pregnant, lactating & nursing mothers is also be conducted by the educators in public level.There by public are getting knowledge about child care & management of pregnancy with minimum complications.
Summarize your interview, including your impression of the interviewee’s role?
I got an opportunity to interview Ms. A, working as a Nurse Educator in a reputed hospital. She explained me very well about her duties & responsibilities to be fulfilled as an Educator along with the she also pointed about some of the issues that she has to face as an educator. Over all it was a nice experience for me because i got an opportunity to understand about the role of a Nurse educator & her contribution to her work place & then to the nursing field & hospital industry.
