Lymphatic system is the part of circulatory system that consists
of lymphatic vessels, lymphoid organs and lymphoid tissues. The
lymphatic system is responsible for collecting the lymph from the
tissue fluids and draining it into the heart. Lymphatic systemic
also helps in production of lymphocytes that take part in immune
response.
The lymphoid organs are divided into primary and secondary. The
primary lymphoid organs are thymus and the bone marrow.
Bone marrow is present in the spongy or cancellous portions of the
bones.
Thymus is present within the mediastinal cavity anterior to the
heart.
Spleen and lymph nodes are the secondary lymphoid organs. Spleen is
present in the left upper quadrant of abdomen.
There are several lymph nodes present in chest, neck, axilla and
inguinal region.
Th lymphatic vessels consists if lymphatic capillaries and right
lymphatic duct and thoracic duct that carry lymph to the heart.
Lymphatic capillaries carry lymph from various body tissues to the
right lymphatic duct and thoracic duct. These two ducts then drain
into the subclavian vein which empties into the heart.
