cellular adaptation may be refer to as the changes made in the cell , in response to the adverse environmental conditions , which can be physiologic or pathologic adaptations.

the various type of cellular adaptations are as follows -

i) hypertrophy ie a situation when there is an enlargment of cells

ii) hyperplasia ie a situation in which there is an increase of cell number

iii) atophy ie asituation in which there is a reduction in size and cell number

iv)metaplasia ie transfer of one type of epithelium to another

v) dysplasia ie disordered growth of cell

the beauty or significance of cellular adaptation is that without genetic inheritence, a normal body cell have the tendency to change itself with respect to the environmental needs or with response to the pathogen. therefore it is one of the important aspect of cell biology. it can be similar or differnt to various aspects, like differentition , dedifferentiation of cell and others.
