Both Personal interviews and telephone interviews are more popular ways of collecting information.

Personal interviews work directly with the respondent while, telephone interviews are very common in developed world and are used to gather information rapidly.¹

Difference between Personal and Telephone interviews:

Hochstism, Roger's and groves reported earliest results of comparing both surveys in 1967.

In that studies they noticed more discomfort in respondents discussing about sensitive topics over the telephone.

Later,in 1999 Elis and kronsnick compared ten different studies and noticed that wealthy and educated were responded. Due to low telephone usage, lower educated and income refused for telephone interviews.

Now, latest surveys shows no difference between Personal and Telephones.²
