Should there be a new Stage of Life Between Late Adolescence and Early Adulthood?

Expert Solution

There need to be a new stage of life between late adolescence and early adulthood because the world has changed a lot. Earlier People completed their school, got a job and got married in young age. So they reached adulthood early. But today the concept of college, universities and job hunting has put People in a different state where people get a full time job at a later stage after completing their college education. So the adult age has moved up and there is a gap between early adult hood and late adolescence.

People who belong to this age group don't live in their homes and they don't have any regular income. Professor Jeffrey Arnett proposed this new age called 'Emerging Adulthood' to fill the gap.

People at this age explore and search for their real identity in terms of career and personality. Emerging adulthood also marks the final stage of puberty and they look for love and sex. They earn to fulfill their pleasure and they don't earn to look after a family.

So an in-between age really fits this gap, Emerging Adulthood.

The choice to continue driving in late adulthood is a personal choice. Should there be any special restrictions on driving in late adulthood (restrictions above and beyond the ones that apply to all drivers—see below) and why? If so, should they be based on age and/or other factors? If not, why not? Think about implications on both sides of the argument (e.g., discrimination vs. public safety).
