Adoloscents and hospitalisation
adoloscence is the "growing up" phase of lifein which the person many physical, mental and hormonal changes. Adoloscents has to face many problems during hospitalisation. They almost loose all areas of their life during hospitalisation and this may lead to development of anxiety, stress, hepllessness or overdependance. They will feel stess due to seperation from their friends. they wil have fear of changes in body image or impending disability because of the disease or treatment. Children can easily accept parental decisions, but adoloscents needs self decision making. But during hospitalistion, they may not be able to take proper decisions.they may not get privacy during hospitalisation which they will face as a major issue. They may find difficulty in following the rules and regulations of the ward or the hospital. Another major problem faced by adoloscent is regarding the confidentiality of treatment. As an independant decision making person , adoloscent may want to keep his disease and treatment details confidential frm his family. Another issue is regarding, conscent for the treatment. he may want to give conscent as his own , but if he is underage, conscent from parents is a must. Also they will feel anxiety regarding loss of school and classes.
So the major concers during hospitalisation of adoloscent are
-loss of independance and control
-loss of privacy
-stress due to seperation from peer group, loss of peer acceptance
-issues of confidentiality and conscent
-fear of change in body appearance or disability or death
