What higher-order knowledge can make the difference between how well and quickly one’s students learn material?
Higher order thinking in educational institutions came as a reform to make sure that students use higher order thinking while learning. Bloom's taxonomy is one such hierarchical model that suggests that students can be elevated step by step.
Bloom's Taxonomy
1. Remember - This is the lowest level of the higher order thinking. Learning stops by just remembering and students can recall whatever you taught them but cannot explain them contextually. Our traditional exams are filled with remember level questions.
2. Understand - Second level in the hierarchy. At this stage students can understand and explain it better. Because they understand, they can also remember. Probably the second level of Understanding will make the difference in how well and quickly one's students learn material. Learning a material stops with the understand level and so it doesn't go to the next stages of applying, analysing, evaluating and creating.
