the lab values will have change from normal if the peritoneal dialysis is Miss for three consecutive days potassium sodium magnesium calcium and phosphorus indicate if they will be lower or higher than normal for the lab values explain why each of these is lower or higher than normal
explain why her blood pressure and heart rate would be elevated if she did not have her dialysis
The kidneys play an important role in the regulation of electrolyte and acid-base balance. With progressive loss of kidney function, derangements in electrolytes and acid-base is seen.
potassium- If dialysis is not there for three consecutive days, kidneys will fail to remove excess potassium and the levels builds up in the body called hyperkalemia manifested as nausea, weakness, numbness and slow pulse, heart palpitations, paresthesia.
Sodium-total renal sodium excretion decreases which leads to extracellular volume expansion, hypertension, and development of edema in feets, hands, legs.
Magnesium-It causes hypermagnesia.
Calcium- kidneys producescalcitriol which allows body to absorb calcium from the foods eaten. When kineys are weak ,there is a lack of calcium which can make bones weak and brittle and also normal heartbeat and keeping nerves and muscles functioning properly will be disturbed.
Phosphorus- kidneys cannot remove phosphorus and it will lead to High phosphorus levels that can cause damage to body and extracting calcium out of bones, making them weak.
The kidneys play an important role in the regulation of arterial blood pressure. Renal control of extracellular volume and renal perfusion pressure are closely involved in maintaining the circulation and blood pressure. which directly regulates sodium excretion and also the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), a hormone system that regulates blood pressure and water balance.this function of kidneys are disturbed so it causes high BP.
Heart rate elevation is due to hyperkalemia.
