ANSWERS:-
1) Share your opinion about DNR.Would you grant it to yourself? Why? Why not?
* DNR ( Do Not Resuscitate ) order is a legal order signed by patient or immediate family allowing the patient to die naturally, with out resuscitation, emergency invasive procedures, and mechanical ventilatory support when the patient's condition is not recoverable ( like multiple organ failure, elderly with multiple diseases,or when the prognosis of disease is poor)
* In my opinion DNR is a good option given to patient and family ,so that it reduces patient suffering, gives a peaceful death with all dear and near one's aroud ( Patient in hosptital or healthcare settings may not receive care and presence of family in critical situations),it reduces financial burden and related stress for the family.
* Yes,I will grant it to myself, when survival rate is poor , because it gives a happy and peaceful end of life without unnecessary invasive procedures and financial expenses, and reduce burden and tension to family.
2) Explain why the doctor suggest DNR to immediate family?
* Doctor suggest DNR to immediate family when the patient is not in a state to take decision and provide consent for DNR.DNR consent should be taken from the patient or from the immediate family members.
* It is the legal and ethical responsibility of the doctor to suggest DNR to immediate family when doctor knows the chance of survival is very little,or patient prognosis is poor and continuing the treatment and cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other related procedures does not help patient to improve health, rather waste time ,money, and facilities which can be utilized for a patient with good prognosis or good chance of survival,if taken care.
3) Do you think it is irrational to provide CPR if it is futile?
* YES, it is irrational and pointless to giveCPR when it is sure that CPR(Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) is not going to make any improvement in patien's condition. It is just wasting time, energy, materials, equipments and money which can be useful for other patient or person, who is in need and who is sure to be surviving with these procedures and equipments.
4) If CPR is deemed "futile" should a DNR order be written?
* Yes,since DNR is a legal order, indicating that the person does not want to receive CPR if the heart stops;so it needs to be written as a legal document and it helps for future reference and protect the doctor and hospital from legal problems.
5) What if CPR is not futile, but the patient wants a DNR order?
* When the CPR is useful and sure that CPR will bring back the patient to life and the patient wants DNR, based on moral and ethical principles ,the doctor can explain the importance of life and need for CPR and the survival rate, find out the reason for insisting DNR,suggest possible solutions for it (like refering to financial and social support teams incase of financial problems, counselling in case of depression etc)
