  • Ethical Relativism is the theory that holds that morality is relative to the norms of one's culture. That is, whether an action is right or wrong depends on the moral norms of the society in which it is practiced. The same action may be morally right in one society but be morally wrong in another.
  • Morality;a sense of right and wrong appears to be an important aspect of all mentally functioning humans and human communities. It has to do with sometimes-conflicting things like justice, compassion, purity, loyalty, etc. In that sense, morality is universal. How these moral dimensions express themselves (or not) varies a lot from people group to people group. In that sense, morality is relative.
  • My answer is that morality is universal and absolute in principle, but not reducible to a finite set of rules. Whatever is consistent with the character and purposes of God is good, and whatever deviates from that is evil. The principle, revealed by God, is “Love God and love your neighbor.”
  • In my opinion, at a basic level, the understanding of morality is universal. For example: values of truthfulness, honesty etc. However, there are a number of factors that color the understanding of morality and thereby moral development too.
  • In my view, the constructs and stages presented by Kohlberg seem to be universal, however, the conceptualization of the same varies due to variations in individual characteristics, cultures and societal views.
  • Morality, then, is universal, in the sense that the structures and regulations necessary for regulating human behavior for the sake of survival is found in all societies, but in practice morality is relative to individuals and the social situations human find themselves in and must navigate in order to go on living.
  • Morality changes between different societies, cultures and even through time. Some cultures find murder to be morally right if done for the right reason, others find all violence wrong. Some cultures think blood transfusions are morally wrong, while others would question the morality of someone who doesn't get one if it's needed. Some cultures find using birth control to be immoral, some others use to but don't anymore.
  • But,yes the basic human values of humanity is universal among cultures I feel.Morality is universal in the sense that it is part of humanity that we all have a sense of right and wrong - except for those individuals who suffer from psychoses that prevent them from distinguishing between the two. Morality is relative among humans because nuances can vary from individual to individual.
