Imagine that you have to assign taxonomic names to a lizards. Each of the 7 lizards represents a different species. You will then need to classify them by genus, class, etc. Your taxonomic names will be based on morphological characters (e.g., individuals with dewlaps may represent one genus, individuals with tail spots may represent another). Lizards of the same taxonomic level may share a single character or multiple characters, but remember, each taxonomic name at a particular level cannot overlap with another taxonomic name of the same level (i.e., a single lizard species cannot belong to two different genera or two different classes). Would you be able to assign taxonomic names above species level to your lizards? Why or why not?
- It is not possible to assign taxonomic names above species level Because Species is lowest level in taxonomical
hierarchy.
- ln taxonomical hierarchy, there are following levels-
*Domain
*Kingdom
*Phylum
*Class
*Order
*Family
*Genus
*Species.
Species is lowest level.
So, l would not be able to assign taxonomic names above species level to my lizards.
