Which of the following is NOT one of the three stages of respiration?

  • The oxidation of acetyl-CoA to who molecules of CO2
  • electron transport and oxidative phosphorylation
  • the conversion of pyruvate to acetyl-CoA
  • the preparation of pyruvate

Solutions

Expert Solution

The three stages of aerobic respiration are as follows:

  • Glycolysis
  • Krebs cycle
  • Oxidative phosphorylation and electron transport

In the case of an anaerobic reaction, the two stages of respiration are glycolysis and fermentation. The pyruvate is converted to either lactic acid or ethanol by a process called fermentation.

Glycolysis is the common pathway in both aerobic and anaerobic respiration, which does not require oxygen.

The breakdown of glucose to release two molecules of pyruvate is called glycolysis. The oxidation of acetyl-CoA to two molecules of carbon dioxide is called the Krebs cycle. The preparation of pyruvate occurs in the glucogenic pathway but not part of respiration.

the correct option among the following is c.
