Are the cells in a pollen tetrad haploid and ? Are these cells genetically identical or are they all different? ___________ Explain your answers.
ANS . Yes the cells in a pollen tetrad are haploid because they are formed by meiotic division of pollen mother cell which are genetically identical
stamen is the male reproductive unit and consist of two parts
1. A long and slender stalk called filament
2. A biiobed terminal structure called anther
Anther - it has 2 lobes and each lobe consists of 2 theca separated by a septum
it is tetragonal structure consist of 4 microsporangia , 2 in each of the lobe .
microsporangia develops furthur and develops into pollen sac.
centre of each microsporangium is filled with similar cells called sporogenous cells.
at maturity pollen sac is formed by fusion of two microsporangium in each lobe .
microsporogenesis - process of formation of microspore from pollen mother cell (PMC) by meiosis .
PMC undergoes meiotic divisions to form cluster of 4 cells called microspore tetrad.
on maturity the anther dehydrates and microspores separate from each other to form pollen grains .
