Non - maleficence means non harming or inflicting the least harm possible to reach a beneficial outcome. Harm and its effects are consideration and part of the ethical decision making process in the health care system. It states that a medical practitioner has a duty to do no harm or allow harm to be caused to a patient through neglect. Non maleficence act as a threashold for treatment. If treatment cause more harm than good then it should not be considered. It also considered constant in clinical practice.

The care should be provided by professional with appropriate level of education and training. Policies for safety and protection of the patient physical health and dignity are applied to avoid harm. Non maleficence had been upheld in both the etical and legal practices of health care. Using utilitarian logic, the benefits of procedure is balanced aganist the harm. The medical proffectional have a duty to provide appropriate care to avoid the further harm to the patient in a by providing standardized care. As a conclusion non maleficence requires to prevent individual from being harmed. This act of prevention can involve creating an environment their treatment can be practiced in a safe manner.
