5S methods are very important for an organization in terms of its clean, safe and more efficient work space. So properly implemented 5S method can create safety, well organized structure, efficiency etc.

5S stands for Sort, Shine, straighten, standardize and sustain.

Sorting means segregation of essential items from non-essential items in a work place. This can result in lesser time consumption and greater speed of operation.

Shine means work space cleaning

Straighten means organizing the items in its places. It will be done after sorting.

Standardize means making this method mandatory or like a habit in the work space.

Sustain stands for establishing safer working condition in the organization.

This method can significantly lower the cost and increase the efficiency.Implementaion of the process will result in waste reduction also.

5S+1S is an additional step for ensuring safety. There are processes which comes with hazardous environment and less controlled variables. So these processes must be carried out by giving more emphasizes on the safety first. Identifying and removing process hazards is the major step to achieve safety. Having more control over the process variables can also contribute to safety of the process.

So 5S+1S is a method to ensure above mentioned factors along with safety.
