9. The four partners are debating new building techniques for a quote on a building proposed in Shanghai. The company is planning to develop an engineering technique, which involves exploring previously untested ideas and applying methods that have a high degree of complexity. This project would require a dozen architects and engineers from across the Calgary, Toronto, and Vancouver offices with diverse skills and knowledge and whose individual work would be highly interdependent with each other. Under these conditions, would you recommend a virtual team or a conventional face-to-face team? Justify your choice.

Solutions

Expert Solution

For the given project, the best possible execution would be the use of a virtual team as it provides the most flexibility and provide the factor of not just creativity but perspective as well as the best possible talent from all around the world without spending a fortune on the overhead, relocation expenses as well as being bound to a formal structure which could potentially result in the project not being implemented to it best ability. A virtual team could essentially work faster, given the proper conduction process as well as resources. This is the fact why we would consider a virtual team for the process of execution, capital investment, space constraints as well as having access to a wider talent pool.
