All group homes for people with developmental disabilities should have policies that include the recognition that residents have a basic right to sexual expression just like any other person. This will make life more difficult and complicated for the staff but they have to understand and accept that dealing with these issues is part of the job.. Explain in 250 words.
All individuals have equal rights. There should be no inequality with a developmental disabled person with a normal person. They also have the right to express just like another person. Because of this right, sometimes the nurses or the staff who are taking care of these diable people become difficult to handle as the disable person mostly immature thinking capacity leads to express whatever they want. The staff cannot refuse their expression but if the expression is not proper then the staff should provide positive reinforcement instead of providing negative reinforcement that can help the person to chance his or her thought. If the staff give negative reinforcement to the disable person may leads to a change in unacceptable behavior or may leads to harm themselves. All the staff should be educated regarding the rights and policies of the diable people. According to the policies, the staff also should follow and care the disable person. So, education of the staff working in the home where disable people are stayed regarding how to handle the disabled person and maintain an only a therapeutic relationship with the disable person and the staff. This will help to deal with their issue on time. Counseling of the person can be done and proper therapeutic communication should be done to prevent from misunderstanding between the staff and the disable person.
