Modifications can be made for students with Down's Syndrome for their bettter academic excellence such as;
1. classroom technology: it will be difficult or impossible for such students towrite in papers or books. Handwriting may be arduous. So encourage the students to record the classes so they can hear it repeatedly in the future for their better understanding. they can use it to recall the lessons at home or in their freetime. they can be allowed to use smartphones or tabs to record audio or visual aids.
2. curriculum: it is better to allow the students with Down's Syndrome to sit along with the other students (non-down synrome students)because it will help these students to build up their confidence within their peer groups and can feel independant and increase their own skills along with the normal students. the curriculum can be included with lots of audio and visual aids, special support sesssions with additional staffs, including more personalised education plans like providing charts, visual aids. Special games can be provided such as question and answering with materials in front and allowing studentss to spell it out.
3. classroom library: classsroom library can be maintained with more colourful visual aids and tactile elements. provide safe atmosphere and creating learning opportunities in a peaceful environment.
4. Language: as compared to other students, language learning wil be slower and difficult for a student with Down's Syndrome. So identifying the difficulty and proving much care and training from the early stages of life can help the student to overcome this language problem to an extent. they may be good in vocabulary and as they grew they become more stronger in social intractions. speech and language therapy will be the better exercise for such students to improve thir visual, auditory, tactile, cognitive skills. they can also learn the sign languages.
5. Class Discussions: as explained earlier, the classoom can be made a better place for students to intract with eachother, to discuss their lessons. questions and ideas can be discussed effectively with Down's Syndrome students and with the non- down's syndromic students to get better ideas . this can increase their self-confidence, sense of independence, and boost their communication skills.
6.Physical classroom Environment: their classroom can be made more attractive with colourful aids such as audio- visual aids like Informative charts, cardboards, placards, posters and so on. they can be provided with peaceful and safe atmosphere with special assisstance and care. individual attention can be provided whenever needed without causing psychological distractions.Recorders can be used to repeat the sessions fo their good understanding.
7.Social classroom Environment: as discussed above, students can intract together with the normal students nd can be allowed to sit together with other students. this will help the affected students to build up their communication skills and can boost their self-confidence and independence.
8. Teaching Methods: the above mentioned techniques such as audio-visual aids, recording the sessions and helping them to hearing the sessions again, teaching them and giving enough time to recall the answers, special support sessions with special assistance, giving them appraisal whenever a task is completed can make them much more better and smarter.
9. materials , learning activities and charts: in Down's Syndrome students, the learning activity is much slower than the normal students . therefore, the materials can be updated according to the current technology like through computers, tablets, smartphones or other audio-visual settings. Learning can be made easier with more intractive sessions, providing materials in hand and asking to spell it , giving enough time and helping to memorise it can help them more.
10.Level of input or assistance from teachers: teachers should be more helpful, ready and willing to provide individual assistance to each students affected with this condition. they can provide additinal staffs for aiding the students. teacherscan provide special game sessions in their classes to make learning more intresting and effective like short questionare sessions and recalling the answers and other effective games.
