Explain your understanding of the Holistic Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice.

Extraordinary changes have occurred in health care and nursing during the past decade. During this time, holistic nurses recognized that not only were they practicing a unique specialty within
nursing, but that they needed to develop and publish standards of practice to document and define that specialty practice. Holistic nursing was officially recognized as a distinct specialty
within the discipline of Nursing by the American Nurses Association (ANA) in November 2006. The current American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) Holistic Nursing: Scope and Standards
of Practice (2007) was written to inform holistic nurses, the nursing profession, students and fac-ulty, other healthcare providers and disciplines, employers, third-party payers, legislators, and the
public about the unique scope of knowledge and the standards of practice and professional performance of a holistic nurse.3. The current standards
are an updated and substantive revision of previ-ous standards disseminated through the AHNA.

How can you practice transpersonal nursing in clinical settings?

Transpersonal caring relationships are a spiritual union. Sitzman (2007) describe the relationship as a "connection that embraces the spirit or soul of the other through the process of full, authentic, caring/healing attention in the moment.

Nurses who practice transpersonal caring show a genuine desire to be present and centered in their interactions with their patients.

Watson (2013) describes a transpersonal nurse as one who has the ability to center consciousness and intentionality on caring, healing and wholeness, rather than on disease illness and pathology." Transpersonal caring focuses on helping patients achieve a more complete sense of harmony within the mind, body and spirit through the use caring transactions.
