Interconnection between the Respiratory system and Cardiovascular system? Explain how changes in one system can affect the other and give two specific examples.
cardiovascular system and respiratory system are the two important systems of our body which are interdependent and work together to deliver oxygen and glucose to our cells. cardiovascular system delivers oxygen and nutrients recieved from respiratory system to all the cells of the body and carries wastes away, whereas respiratory system brings about gaseous exchange providing oxygen rich air to cardiovascular system and taking out carbondioxide.
so, both the systems work together to provide oxygen to the tissues and remove carbon dioxide from them. When the heart which is a part of cardiovascular system recieves oxygen defficient blood, it pumps it to the lungs ( part of respiratory system) which expand and get fresh air from the environment. the oxygen is then transfered to the blood ( part of cardiovascular system) by the lungs via alveoli.
The example which proves the interconnection between these two systems is heavy exercise. during exercise body needs excess amount of oxygen to meet the energy demands of the body. this oxygen is provided to all the body cells by the heart, but for this it needs help of lungs. thus lungs help the heart to meet the increasing demand of oxygen rich blood during heavy physical exercise.
