The sample collection method for upper respiratory track
The samples from here could be one of the two types oropharyngeal or nasopharyngeal swabs
Collecting the OP swab: Insert swab into the
posterior pharynx and tonsillar regions and rub swab gently and
avoid touching areas like tongue, teeth, and gums.
d. Collecting the NP swab. Insert a flexible wire shaft
swab through the nares parallel to the palate till resistance
obstructed or the distance is equivalent to that from the ear to
the nostril of the patient indicating contact with
the nasopharnyx. Role and rub the swab gently untill the it
collects secretions rub and roll the swab and leave it there for
few more seconds before take it out.
Urinary samples:
Most of the urine samples are collected as by asking patient to collect theor urine in a sterile container or receptacle. For this patient need to be advised to clean their genital area before collecting sample.
If the urine sample must be taken in cathater (clean dry sterilised) only, than the medical practitioner should be able to collect the samples from the patient.
