Identify a workaround (specific to technology used in a hospital setting) that you have used or perhaps seen someone else use, and analyze why you feel this risk-taking behavior was chosen over behavior that conforms to a safety culture. What are the risks? Are there benefits? Why or why not? Discuss the current patient safety characteristics used by your current workplace or clinical site. Identify at least three aspects of your workplace or clinical environment that need to be changed with regard to patient safety (including confidentiality), and then suggest strategies for change.
Workaround refers the method of solving a problem at that time by changing the rules and regulations in order to prevent major consequences .
The Electronic Health Record in the healthcare sector is the most frequently used workaround. This risk taking behavior is most often chose to provide patient care accordingly and if it could prevent unnecessary complications to patients
The main risk of it is confidentiality and security concerns of patient information ,cab make the staffs to break the rules and regulations of the organization
The benefits of it are it can improve communication, enables provider to exchange and transfer information at the right time ,can prevent many diagnostics and medication errors,etc.,
The current patient safety characteristics which is used in most healthcare sector are the accessibility to EHR is provided to the concerned patient ,prevention of harm or injury ,providing a safe environment against hazards ,no medication error, early diagnosis and treatment ,etc. ,
The area which has to be changed in order to provide safe patient care are reducing or minimizing the waiting time by addressing staff shortage and providing timely care. Use of encrypted technology made mandatory to prevent any loss of data. Encouraging Tue staffs to log out of the system after use in order to protect patient information .
