August Wilson was an American playwright.August Wilson original name is Frederick August Kittel.His works included a series of ten plays, The Pittsburgh Cycle, for which he received two Pulitzer Prizes for Drama.

What is Pittsburgh cycle?

Pittsburgh Cycle is a towering achievement of 10 plays documenting the hopes and struggles of African Americans.

He wrote about the complexity of the African American experience, of undocumented lives, and of the people he grew up in the Hill District of Pittsburg.The Pittsburgh Cycle is also called “Century Cycle.”

Fences is a reflection of his rhetorical aims of using art in changing the existing relationship between the blacks and society as proof that the African American culture is fit for offering sustenance.
