Water: What is water, and why is water essential to life? List three properties of water and how each is useful to many species on earth. The paper should be 400- 500 words (~ 1 double-spaced, APA formatted page). Do not simply list the properties. Give an example of how each property of water make it better than other liquids for supporting biological systems. Refer to the attached document for the grading rubric

Ans: Water is a chemical substance consisting of two hydrogen atoms bound to the central oxygen atom via a covalent bond. This configuration results in a molecule that is polar. ... The transient hydrogen bonds between water molecules form a transparent, colorless, oderless, and tasteless liquid.

Water (H2O) is vital for all living organisms, and life could not occur without it. The water may act as a transport medium to convey these substances to various parts of the body.Biomolecules e.g. DNA, proteins, and polysaccharides, gases, vitamins, etc. are dissolved in water. It also acts as an important reactant in certain biochemical processes. In plants, water is an essential requirement in photosynthesis.

Properties:

  1. Water is regarded as the universal solvent.
  2. It is a tasteless and almost an odorless liquid at ambient temperature and pressure.
  3. Water has high adhesion properties. Because of this, water has the ability for capillary action, the tendency to move up a narrow tube against gravity, a property relied upon by vascular plants, such as trees.
