i.Discuss why does precision of any statistical result decrease as its confidence interval increases? Would a research on the effectiveness of Covid 19 vaccine require a higher degree of precision or a higher level of confidence interval? Why?

ii. While deciding which localities in Karachi are more affected by Covid 19 pandemic, should a researcher use stratified sampling or quota sampling? Why?

iii. Fear of Covid 19 is an abstract construct. If you are required to do a quantitative research on this topic, what process will you develop to measure fear?

Solutions

Expert Solution

i. The precision decreases when confidence interval increases because the critical value of the distribution that is used to find the confidence interval increases hence the standard error also increases as a result precision decreases. A research on the effectiveness of Covid 19 vaccine would require a higher degree of precision because the number of deaths is increasing and we need to focus on that, if the higher level of the confidence interval would be considered then we will have a wider width of the confidence interval and the chances of error will be increased.

ii. We should use quota sampling because people affected by Covid 19 have specific traits.

iii. We will have to create a survey to measure fear. This survey will be developed by doctors involved in treating patients and the patients itself, also it should include the questions that ask people about their knowledge on Covid 19 like its precautions, after effect protections, etc.

As the sample size INCREASES for computing a confidence interval, the width of the confidence interval DECREASES. 12 When the population standard deviation sigma is assumed known, a confidence interval can assume NORMALITY of the SAMPLE MEAN if the sample size is greater than 30. 12 A SYMMETRIC histogram implies the plotted variable is NORMALLY distributed. 12 The goal when using confidence intervals is to have WIDE INTERVALS to be assured that the interval contains the population parameter. 12 A...

Hypotheses for a statistical test are given along with a confidence interval for a sample. Use the confidence interval to state a formal conclusion of the test for that sample and give the significance level used to make the conclusion.                                  Ho: p = 0.5 vs Ha: p ≠ 0.5 95% confidence interval for p: 0.36 to 0.55. 90% confidence interval for p: 0.32 to 0.48. 99% confidence interval for p: 0.18 to 0.65.
