How Y2K have impact people/industry/technology advancement? - over the years till now
In the United States and around the world, the Y2 K error has actually caused several problems. These issues were not as common as many individuals predicted, but enough of them were there to make us aware that the Y2 K bug was a real concern. For all but a small portion of the population, the most prevalent issues which occurred instantly in the United States became quite inconsequential. The bulk of the Y2 K error associated concerns did not emerge when the clock reached midnight on December 31, 1999, but in the days that followed.
In three "mission-critical" applications, the Federal Housing Administration identified slight Y2 K related issues. Two of these systems, Electronic Data interchange (EDI) and Comprehensive servicing and manufacturing system (CSMS), have faced issues that have prompted files to surface on inaccurate dates. However, these mistakes did not affect any other material in the reports, so the bug was minor. The Single Family Insurance Syystem6 (SFIS) was the third scheme which experienced issues. This mistake stopped FDHA mortgages from being terminated by customers. For the most part, the consequences of these glitches were negligible, and both were immediately corrected.
For three critical days, United States spy satellites transmitted unreadable data. A patch that was intended to repair a Y2 K problem caused the problem, but caused the satellites to mangle data communications back to Earth. The problems arrived at an uneasy moment, in the first few days of the millennium, when there were significant fears of terrorist attacks.
