Aplastic anemia is one of the serious adverse effect of Chloramphenicol, in this case what is the risk-benefit balance, risk communication and risk management of the drug in regard to this specific ADR.
Risk-benefit balance, risk communication, and risk management of the drug has many points to be discussed but only regrading this adverse drug reaction, these are given below-------
1) risk-benefit balance------ this is the task of a physician to make a list of the risk and benefits a drug has before prescribing it to a client. After initiating the therapy the client is then monitored. however, we know that aplastic anemia is the major adverse effect of antibiotic chloramphenicol as it depresses the bone marrow and reduces the production of RBCs.
2) risk communication-----This needs to be done with the client before starting the medicine. Risk communication will make the client more cooperating and improve drug compliance. If a client knows about its adverse effect the chances of occurring are less as he may work in a way to suppress it and adapt ways to prevent or manage it in a better way.
3) risk management------ As I mentioned earlier if the client knows about it the management would be easier, like cooperating towards the treatment of aplastic anemia that includes blood transfusion, bone marrow stimulants, immunosuppressive drugs.
