1. In addition to treating iron deficiency anemia, how are iron preparations used to prevent iron deficiency anemia?
The iron preparations are helpful in preventing iron deficiency anemia as it complements the daily requirement of the iron intake. If the body is not receiving the correct daily dose of the iron, the supplement will maintain the levels and will not show any symptoms of deficiency. The use of iron supplements is required in the pregnant ladies and children of age from 6 months to two years. The amount of iron in the body of pregnant ladies may go low as the body requires more iron for the growing fetus, so they should be provided with supplements. In the case of the children, it is advisable to give iron supplements as the milk is not sufficient to provide the daily dose of iron but it should be provided by the consultation of the doctor. If the population other than this is provided the iron supplements, then is advised to consult the doctor first before taking the medication.
