A drug for IV infusion is supplied as a 4 mL vial with a concentration of 2.5 mg /mL. the contents of the vial are transferred into an infusion bag to make a final volume of 1000 mL. The infusion is to run for a total of 120 minutes with a flow rate of 30 mL /hour. How much drug will be delivered?
1ml contain 2.5mg
Therefore the vial contain =4×2.5=10mg
10mg transfered into 1000ml
In each ml of 1000ml contain =10÷1000=0.01mg
Total time =120min that is 2hr
Flow rate =30ml/hr
Therefore total ml for 2hr=2×30=60ml
Total amount of drug =60×0.01=0.06mg
