Expert Solution

ANSWER: Bloating and abdominal distension is common subjective complaint in people with gastrointestinal disorders.

there are some causes of abdominal distension in body:

  • increased intraluminal content: increase or accumulation in fecal, air, gas or water content in digestive tract can cause abdominal distenstion. overproduction of gas by colonic or small intestine bacteria which is not able to pass through can cause discomfort.
  • visceral hypersensitivity: as people is sensitive to some eating contents which cause indigestion in body can cause abdominal distension.
  • constipation and overflow obstruction: As retained stool in rectum can cause evacuation of gas, and slowing of intestinal movement. Due to longer sitting of stool in intestinal tract, the more bacteria fermented and produce gas and make unable the person to pass gas and stool and cause abdominal distension. It also reduce the motility of intestine which reduce passage of stool to rectum.
