"Any intellectual activity involves the independent functioning of three neurological system". Explain with reference to PASS model.
PASS model was developed by J.P.Das, Jack Naglieri and Kirby in the year 1994. As per them three neurological systems called the functional units of brain are responsible for
a) Arousal/Attention
b) Simultaneous and responsible for
c) Planning
a) Arousal/ Attention
1) It helps person to process any information.
2) Arousal makes you focus your attention on your task which needs to be completed. For example; you have your exams approaching, this makes your prepare for the same by reading, learning, revising the contents required for the exams.
b) Simultaneous and successive Processing:
1) Simultaneous and successive Processing deals with how the brain processes the information builds the relation between the data available and integrate them into a meaningful pattern which is understandable.
2) Simultaneous processing helps you in grasping the meaning and relationship between the given abstract figures.
3) Successive processing takes place when you have all the reqy information serially and how one steps will lead to the next step and so on. For example: Learning of digits, alphabet, multiplication tables etc.
c) Planning:
1) Planning is an important feature of intelligence.
2) It comes into picture once the information is collected and processed.
3) If a plan fails, it is modified to suit the requirements of the task being done. For example: To prepare for exams, you would set goals plan a time schedule of study, get clarifications in case of problems and if you are not able to tackle the subjects, you may have to think of other ways to meet your goals.
