Research on Sickle Cell Anemia and convince the readers of ways to prevent their offspring from inheriting it. 2-3 paragraphs

Solutions

Expert Solution

Sickle cell anemia, a known well studied blood disorder present in millions of people across the globe. This genetic disorder, cause by genetic inheritance from one generation to another and in this disease people have compromised oxygen transport efficiency of the hemoglobin of RBCs due to its sickle rod shaped structure.

This disease caused by presence of faulty gene (as a result of mutation) in a person which reduce the function of hemoglobin for binding of oxygen and its transport from lungs to different parts of the body. Unfortunately, this condition is no curable and only thing doctor can do is its management and prevention in the offspring.

Now a days, there are various sophisticated test available which can tell you about the gene/character or trait present in you for this untreatable disease and since its inheritable disease so with the help of genetics experts, we can weigh the probability of this disease in the offspring and with the help of proper counseling, this disease can be prevented in the offspring significantly.

Please note that in majority of cases, this disease inherit from parent to their offspring if both the parents (father as well as mother) carry faulty gene (mutation for sickle cell anemia) and such conditional can be avoided easily.

Sickle cell anemia is a genetic disease resulting from a single amino acid substitution in the hemoglobin β chain. This mutation causes hemoglobin to polymerize into strands in the deoxygenated state, leading to the erythrocytes forming a sickled shape. Why does the mutation lead to polymerization and why does this only occur in the deoxygenated state?
