a basketball coach was criticized in a newspaper for not trying out every combination of players. if the team roster has 14 players and every player can play every position how many 5-player combinations are possible?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Given that a team roster has 14 players and team should consist of 5 players.
As the player can play in any position, combinations of the positions are also considered.
Selecting a team of 5 from 14 players is done in 14c5 ways and arranging the 5 players between themselves can be done in an additional 5! ways.
Total ways or combinations = 14c5 * 5! = 240240 ways.

If the positions are not considered then the total combinations would be = 14c5 = 2002 ways

Every time a certain basketball team wins, the players become over-confident. In that case, their chance of winning the next game is only 35%. Every time the team loses, the players become angry with themselves and more focused. In that case, their chance of winning the next game is 75% Assuming that the team wins the 1st game, calculate the probability they win the 4th game. Find the equilibrium distribution as well.
