Discuss the differences between cold handoff vs warm handoff in mobile communications?
Answer)
The difference between cold handoff and warm handoff in that of mobile communications are as mentioned below:
1) Hard or warm handoff is defined for an actual break-in that of the connection which happens while switching from that of one cell to that of the other and this would have radio links from that of the mobile station for that of an existing cell. The radio link from that of the mobile station as that of the existing cell is actually broken much before the established link with that of the next cell and also it is an inter-frequency handoff that mostly is broken much before the policy is made.
2) Cold handoff or soft handoff is the one where at least one of the link would be kept when the radio link would be added or even removed to that of the mobile station and this would also ensure while the handoff where no such break would happen. This is mostly being adopted for co-located sites and is made much before breaking the policy.
