(Mobile generations & 5G mobile) Mobile communications have been developed from the first generation (1G) to the fifth generation (5G) now. Explain each mobile generation from 1G to 5G in brief. Describe the differences of each generation from the previous generation. Discuss what 5G mobile is different from the previous generations of mobile. Show your idea how to utilize the 5G mobile for business. (100 points)
Mobile generation and 5G mobile.
First(I) Generation
Mobile communications or wireless cellular technology started with first generation mobile phones, popularly known as 1G. It was an analog telecommunications system( 1979 -1980)
Cellular technology introduced 1G and land area was divided into small sectors known as cells. Each cell had a base station which used radio signals and a transceiver for communicating with mobile devices.
Base stations were connected to telephone networks. Frequency modulation techniques were used for voice calls by base stations.
Analog communication was used by 1G and it was prone to interference and encryption was not supported by this.
Second generation (2G)
Second generation used digital system for communication. Several 2G system has developed main of them are AMPS, GSM, CDMA.
D AMPS (Digital Advanced Mobile phone systems) was a digital version of AMPS and it used Time Division Multiplexing for multiple calls.
GSM(Global System for Mobile communication) was widely used for 2G and uses Frequency Division Multiple Access(FDMA) and To me Division multiple access (TDM)
Difference of 2G from 1G
SMS text messaging was introduced in the form of data service.
More efficient on frequency spectrum as voice signals are digitized and compressed over transmission.
Increased security as voice data signals are compressed
2G mobile are more more energy efficient as digital signals consumes less battery power.
Third generation (3G)
Third generation mobile phone was introduced with a set of standards for wieless mobile communication. It provides high quality voice and data signals along with quality multimedia service.
The area of application include mobile tv access, location based service GPS, television medicine, video calls and conferencing and mobile internet access.
It used two technology 3GPP and 3GPP2.
Difference of 3G over 2G
Internet was introduced on mobile phones providing high speed data transmission datatransfer speed of 0.2Mbps.
Global roaming services was available to both 2G and 3G.
It allowed access to all advanced internet activities such as surfing through webpages and video content, playing music, viewing video and television service etc.
Fourth generation (4G)
Fourth generation provides all IP based cellular communication based on broadband cellular network services
4G comes in two main categories LTE and WIMAX.
LTE (Long term Evolution) is an extension of the 3G technology. It is a standard for high-speed mobile communication based upon GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA technologies
WiMAX iWorldwide Interoperability for microwave acess is a mobile wireless broadband access (MWBA)standard branded as 4G. It offers peak data rates of 128 Mbps for downlink and 56 Mbps for uplink over 20 MHz wide channels.
The application areas of 4G includes mobile telephony, high definition mobile tv, video conferencing, 3D television and streaming multimedia.
Difference of 4G over 3G
Provides high quality uninterrupted services for all IP packet switched network for transmission of voice, data, signals and multimedia.
4G networks should have peak data rates of 100Mbps for highly mobile stations like train, car etc providing smooth handoffs across heterogeneous network areas.
Fifth generation (5G)
5G wireless technology is meant to deliver higher multi-Gbps peak data speeds, ultra low latency, more reliability, massive network capacity, increased availability, and a more uniform user experience to more users.
Difference of 5G over other generation
Higher performance and improved efficiency empower new user experiences and connects new industries.
With high speeds, superior reliability and negligible latency, 5G will expand the mobile ecosystem into new realms.
5G will impact every industry, making safer transportation, remote healthcare, precision agriculture and digitized logistics.
5G mobile phone for business
5G mobile technology can usher in new immersive experiences such as VR and AR with faster, more uniform data rates.
5G can enable new services that can transform industries with ultra-reliable, available, low-latency links like remote control of critical infrastructure, vehicles, and medical procedures.
5G can connect to a massive number of embedded sensors in virtually everything through the ability to scale down in data rates, power, and mobilit and providing extremely lean and low cost connectivity solutions.
5G along with faster speeds when added to existing network architecture and Internet of things and Edge to Edge capabilities will change the way of business.
5G will alter the business and user experience in dramatic and exciting ways from retail to financial services, health care, manufacturing and transportation.
