The health care team at your agency used the grassroots approach of emancipatory knowing to determine that using telehealth would best meet the healthcare needs of patients who cannot access health care or who have chronic illnesses. Your agency has implemented home telehealth care. You have been assigned to develop a creative brochure describing home telehealth care including the NURSING services that can be provided using this technology. As you consider your project, Identify the telehealth services you will use and what that will provide for your patients. Also, identify a resource they can use to find more helpful information and cite it in APA format. Be sure to review the links below on assessing credible websites. (*It is not necessary for you to develop the actual brochure, just speak to it. )
These guidelines are informed by relevant American Psychological
Association (APA) standards and guidelines, including the
following: Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of
Conduct (“APA Ethics Code”) (APA, 2002a, 2010), and the Record
Keeping Guidelines (APA, 2007). In addition, the assumptions and
principles that guide the APA's “Guidelines on Multicultural
Training, Research, Practice, and Organizational Change for
Psychologists” (APA, 2003) are infused throughout the rationale and
application describing each of the guidelines. Therefore, these
guidelines are informed by professional theories, evidence-based
practices and definitions in an effort to offer the best guidance
in the practice of telepsychology.
Telehealth is defined as the delivery and
facilitation of health and health-related services including
medical care, provider and patient education, health information
services, and self-care via telecommunications and digital
communication technologies. Live video conferencing, mobile health
apps, “store and forward” electronic transmission, and remote
patient monitoring (RPM) are examples of technologies used in
telehealth.
Telehealth Technology
Several technologies are being deployed for telehealth including mHealth (or mobile health), video and audio technologies, digital photography, remote patient monitoring (RPM), and store and forward technologies.
Video Conferencing, Video-Scopes, and High-Resolution Cameras in Telehealth
Clinicians are conquering distance and providing access to
patients who are not able to travel by providing appointments
utilizing real-time video communication platforms. Video
conferencing technology has been utilized to provide
care for inmates, military personnel, and patients located in rural
locations for some time.
Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM)
Remote Patient Monitoring involves the reporting, collection, transmission, and evaluation of patient health data through electronic devices such as wearables, mobile devices, smartphone apps, and internet-enabled computers. RPM technologies remind patients to weigh themselves and transmit the measurements to their physicians. Wearables and other electronic monitoring devices are being used to collect and transfer vital sign data including blood pressures, cardiac stats, oxygen levels, and respiratory rates.
