Medical Terminology Project: The project needs to be at least 300-word minimum and utilize 50 medical terms. The medical terms must be full medical terms. You may not use just prefixes, suffixes or word roots. The words must be from the Purple boxes in your book. They must be typed and medical terms must be highlighted but you may put this project together any way you like. You can write a paper, do a powerpoint or do something really creative. You have creative license! You may pick any topic you find interesting. Note: You are welcome to do this in groups too, be creative! Perhaps you could create a script and read the medical dialog in a skit? I love to have some collaborations when possible.

Shelein looked around her new apartment and elt better than she had ina long term . Her husband , jack , had a job , Nick , her 6 years old son , that was happy in his new school , Her mother moved with them , Shelein just had to get used to life in the brand new town ,

Her mother 's arthritis was bothering her , So Shelein had to find doctor who could hep her , Jack had  gastiritis before they moved , but it wasn't bothering him right now.

Nick had just  tonsillitis   .He had been very sick , but he was better now , but Nick need to have a check up by a children's doctor .

Shelein finally had her apartment organized . She still had to get used to the new town , She went outside to get her mail, Along the way , Shelein ran into another woman who was in a nurse's uniform . "Hi " said shelein . ' I just moved in , My name is Shelein consola"

"hi " the women answer ," I ma thelma jones . I have in the apartment right next to you . Welcome'

"Are yue a nurse ? '' asked Shelein

Thelma smied "" yes , I'm an LPN . I just started about three months ago , Th training was hard work , but worth it , I love my job"' SHElein had a great idea " may be you can help me . I need to find new doctors , You probably know the medical titiles the doctors in this town "

"what kind of doctor do you need "? thelema asked .

"I am not sure . I don't know the medical titles the doctors used " Shelein replied .

"WEll , lets 's get the telephone book and look in the yellow pages . I'll help you ."

They looked in the yellow pages under physicians . Shelein frowned 'see what I mean . These words are so long I have no idea what what theymean. Look at this _ Cardiologist . What's that "?

THelema answered , " It is really easier than it looks . Most medical words are made of word parts . If we know what the word parts mean . We can figure out what the words mean . Look at the word in cardiologist .Cardio/o means something to do with heart , Logist  really means one who studies or an expert , So a cardiologist is a heart expert - a doctor for the heart . Let's look at other specialties"

" here 's one I know " said Shelein " A Gynaecologist   is a woman's doctor . I know that logist means expert . What does the first part of the word - Gynae /o- means ?"

"It just means for women and females as you told " said Thelema. " here is one more - an Oncologist , dentist , dermatologist , hematologist , neurologist , psychologist , ophthalmologist , pediatricians , pathologist ,   and many mores''

" let me explain - The all logsist which comes in back its related to study , you just have to focus on first word in it - Oncologist means related to the cancer , dentist related to tooth , Dermatologist related to the skin , hematologist related to the blood , neurologist related to the brain , psychologist related to the mind , pathologist related to study of disesase in the body , opthalmologist related to eyes , and pediatrician related to the children ,''

" pediatrician , i want to go to there , because my son Nick suffered from Tonsillitis , And my mom have a arthritis so I also went to the Orthopedialogist department and my husband is suffered from gastiritis so , for him I haveto took him in gastroenterologist "

Two weeks passed quickly after Shelein met with Thelema. The two womwn beame friends , Shelein trusted Thelema and knew she had a friend she could rely on , Early morning one , just after jack had gone to work , Nick woke up crying , He said that he had a terrible pain in his belly . Shelein felt his forehead . HE felt very hot - he ghad a fever .... She tooks his temperature with a Thermometer , it was 103 degree . By the time Shelein read the thermometer , Nick was screaming that his belly hurt . Shelein ran to her phone and called Thelema . she came right over . , bringiing her son Gregg with her.   . Thelema said that they should take Nick to the emergency room .

Shelein 's mother stayed withGregg until it was time for school . Shelein , Thelema and Nick went to the emergency room .Along the way , Thelem tried to comfort Nick and help Shelein keep calm , Nick was especially frightened because he was really afraid of doctors . Someone had once told Shelein that nick had a phobia of doctors . .

Soon they were in the emergency rrom and Nick was being examined by the physicians , She said that Nick had acute  appendectomy .

Shelein was very frightened and asked Thelema what that meant , then Thelema explained that acute meant a is a disorder that had a sudden start that would not be permannent , Abdominal meant in the abdomen or belly .febrile meant the same as fever . Shelein knew that itis means inflammation . Appendic/o  refers to the appendix . That is a part of teh body found in teh lower surgery . If Nick had Appendicitis , he would have to have an operation to remove his appendix .

A worker came into the room and tok some blood from Nick for a blood test ,Shelein and Thelema waited with Nick for the results j, As they wanted NIck began to feel better , His belly still hurt , but he said it felt better , Soon the doctor came back . She hsaid the blood test locked good she didn't think NIck had appendicitis   . Just to be sure , she wanted Nick to have another test , she called it a sonogram .   she explained that gram means to record and sono meand sound , A sonogram uses sound waves to look inside the body , It wouldn't Nick at all .

Thelema and Shelein took Nick to another part of the hospital where the sonogram was done, then they wemt back to the emergency room , A nurse took Bick 's temeperature . IT had gpone to 99 degree . nick was beginning to feel better .

The doctor came back into the room , she said that the sonogram showed that everything was normal , Nick probably had a virus , She gave Shelein a prescriptuion to take to the pharmacy By thenext day , Nick was fine , Shelein was thankful that he Didn't need an operation .

Shelein thanks to Thelma to come with me and all efforts she has done with her in this situation .
