Case Scenario: A 75-year-old man in long term care. He has been bedbound for longer than six months. His history shows he has cardiac and circulatory problems, exacerbated by his lack of activity.

DVT ( Deep vein thrombosis ) is the biggest problem for such scenario.

DVT is a threat of pulmonary embolism and it occurs when blood moves too slowly through veins can form column of blood cells results in clot formation . These clots form in deep vein called Deep vein thrombosis.

Specific facts :-

DVT can occurs due to several reasons.

Age related issue - As this patient is 75 years old so there is more chances of DVT in aged patient.

Long time sitting - patient is bedbound for a long time , resulting in laxing of muscles leads to problem in proper circulation of blood in body.

There may be other reasons for DVT like obesity , pregnancy , smoking .

This patient has cardiac and circulatory issues which will increase the risk of DVT.

In DVT symptoms may be occur or not , symptoms may include-

* Leg or arm swelling *soreness while walking *enlarged veins *skin looks blue *warmth area of swelling.

If this clot breaks and get free in circulation it can stuck in blood vessels of lungs cause pulmonary embolism.if remain untreated It can be fatal

Pulmonary embolism results in shortness of breathing , chest pain , coughing up e.t.c

DVT can be prevented by taking care of yourselves , get regular check-up , avoid long sitting .

It can be treated by plan surgery or by medicine.
