Does the sun have an orbit, if so what causes this orbital motion?
Yes, the Sun has an orbit. The Sun orbits around the centre of the Milky way galaxy, along with the solar system (plantes, astroid, comets ,etc), with a velocity of 720000km per hours. It takes 230million years to complete one orbit around the galaxy.
Orbital motion occurs when an object is moving with a forward velocity and at the same time pulled towards another object of higher gravitational force. The forward velocity of the Sun along with acceleration due to gravity towards center of the galaxy results a circular or oval path. This keeps the sun revolve around the center of the galaxy.
