The major characteristics of a Health maintenance organizations (HMO) is that to provide health insurance coverage for a monthly or annual fee as well as to provide health care servces. It limits its coverage to medical care provided through doctors and other providers who are under contract to the HMO. It requires its participants to first receive medical care services from an assigned provider known as the primary care physician.HMO provides basic and supplementary health services.
