Who is James Baldwin's audience?
James Baldwin was an american novelist, poet, essayist,
playwright , and activist. His Essays, as collected in Notes of a
Native Son, explore the intricacies of sexual, racial and class
distinctions in Western society, most notably in regard to the mid-
20 th century United states.Baldwin broke new literary ground with
the exploration of racial and social issues through his many works.
He was very well known for his essays on the Black experience in
America.
The james baldwins audience was strange, in general in New York an
audience is either young or old (in the Lincoln Center, it is
mainly old), black or white (in the Lincoln Center, it's almost
exclusively white)
The audience for Baldwin could not be so easily categorised , it
had been , half black, half white ,half young, half old ,
three-quarters straight Also, there have been an outsized number of
young black men who had come alone, who carried a book and an aura
of seriousness and intensity. There were a good number of writers
and also some of Baldwin's family was there.
