Missense mutation, which results in a protein in which one amino acid is substituted for another. It is due to point mutation. Example sickle cell anemia
Nonsense mutation, in which a stop codon replaces an amino acid codon, leading to premature termination of translation. It is due to point mutation.
Frameshift mutation, which causes a change in the reading frame,
leading to introduction of unrelated amino acids into the protein,
generally followed by a stop codon.
It is due to insertion or deletion of DNA sequence. One form of
beta-thalassemia.
Point mutation is due to ethylmethane sulfonate (EMS).
Chromosomal mutation
Inversion - One region of a chromosome is flipped and
reinserted.
Duplication - A region of a chromosome is repeated.
Translocation - A region from one chromosome is aberrantly attached
to another chromosome. Burkitt lymphoma.
