Mr. Chen asks the nurse how he should be instructing his 14-year-old child to use the newly prescribed inhaler.
In your post explain how you as a nurse would teach Mr. Chen and his son.

Inhaler is a very simple device using as a treatment of choice for asthma.( Here not mentioned about the type of inhaler and the medicines). So the boy is 14 year old he can use an inhaler without any spacer or facemask.It consists a medicine .FIRST of all wash your hands.
Remove the cap of inhaler
Shake the inhaler well
Take out a breathe slowly
Put the mouthpiece to the mouth and close the mouth as much as possible (keep it between the lips not deep inside the mouth)
Actuate (press the lower part of the inhaler ) .
Take a deep breath very gently.
Hold the breath for few seconds
Repeat the same steps as per the dose after a minute .(if another puff is prescribed) Prescribed dose must be taken properly.
Then cover the inhaler with the lid.
After some time wash the mouth with plain water.
Inhaler is a treatment for asthma. The correct dose should be taken at the correct time . In case of sudden attack we can use it as an emergency drug if you are in the home or outside the health care facility. It is used as a mild prophylactic method in asthma patients.
It relieves the symptoms very fast. Act as barrior from frequent asthmatic attacks. It makes you more comfortable while sleeping and playing. Keep it always with you .
