Linear editing is a process of selecting, arranging and modifying images and sound in a predetermined order sequence from start to finish. It is most commonly used when we are working on a video tape because videotape cannot be physically cut into pieces to be slice together to create a new order ,unlike film. The editor has to dub or record each desired video clip on to a master tape.
There are couple of disadvantages that it is not possible to insert or delete scenes from the master tape without re copying all the scenes because each piece of video clip must be laid down in real time, one cannot make a change without re- editing everything after the change.
secondly because of over dubbing if you want to replace a current clip with a new one the two clips must be of same length. If the new clip is too short then there will be problem and if it's too long then there will be problem the solution is to either make the new clip fit to the current one or rebuild the project from the added to the end both of which is not very pleasant. also there will be a problem of degradation of the image because of the overdubbing.
In nonlinear video editing the original source files are not lost or modified during editing. This is done through an edit decision list which record the decision of the editor and can also be interchanged with other editing tools.
Nonlinear editing differs from linear editing in several ways .video from the sources is recorded to the editing computer hard drive or error prior to the added session.
the second step involved the laying video to the recorder in a sequential shots the segments are assembled using a video editing software where program. the segments can be moved around at will in a drag and drop fashion. also most of the video editing program have some sort of CG or character generator feature built-in for lower third of titles the work in progress can be viewed at any time during the added in real-time ones that its complete it is finally laid to video.
There are various advantages of using a non-linear editing system presents. The first is that it allows you access to any frame, scene or even groups of scenen at any time. also as the original video footage is kept intact when editing you are able to return to the original take whenever you like.
secondly nonlinear video editing system offers the flexibility of editing. You can change your mind a hundred times and can also be made a hundred time over without having to start all over again with esch change.
Non linear editing increases the quality of videos. In NON
linear editing it is possible to edit in standard definition and
high definition which improves the broadcast quality of
videos.
Also in non linear editing productivity of viewers also increases
as unnecessary clips are removed by the editor in the editing
process।
