Explain the economic changes in northern states of the United States in the early 1800s. How did industrialization, urbanization, the market revolution, and the transportation revolution change America? What were its effects on society and culture?
In the first half of the 19th century the North developed much more than the south economically.During the civil war about 80%of the industry was in the north as slavery was abolished and the economy went back to the rising industry and there was industrialization and urbanization.However South was much more rural than the north.
The industrialization saw the evolution of large urban centers such as Boston and New York city.This led to internal migration of workers to the urban centers.There was growth of unskilled workers as many workers worked in the industries.Railroads expanded which brought the remote areas into the national market economy.American society got transformed due to industrial growth.A new class of wealthy industrialists and prosperous middle class grew. Blue collar working class grew.As the factories grew people started moving from the rural areas and urbanization grew.People started living near the industries and working in industries and so there was growth of economic activity and industrial growth..The market revolution is a historical model which argues that there was change of the economy which coordinated the different aspects of the market economywith the world. The transportation revolution made travel faster and reduced shipping time and cost..The transportation revolution transformed agriculture as more and more land could be developed as farmers could go to the national market.
Urbanization brought people together, provided more jobs ,and provided people with a steady income.The creation of power machines and factories provided more jobs . Production increased and people got the ability for transportation of raw materials.Industrialization led to the uprising of leisure for the working class.Industrialization provided cheaper goods.American society got transformed due to industrial growth.A new class of wealthy industrialists and prosperous middle class grew. Blue collar working class grew.As the factories grew people started moving from the rural areas and urbanization grew.
