Daniel (“Dan”) Fusilier, a 71-year-old male, comes to the
Emergency Department (ED) with a 7-day history of increased sputum
production, a change in the character of sputum, increased
shortness of breath, and a fever of 101° F. He has a smoking
history and history of asthma. Dan has been hospitalized twice with
pneumonia, most recently two years ago.
Dan is admitted to a medical unit with pneumonia and COPD. The
LPN completes a focused assessment, including lung auscultation.
