Ans) Contribution of Florence Nightingale in the Nursing Education:
Florence Nightingale was born on May 12,1820 in Florence, Italy.
Early life and training: She was born in the rich upper class family. Her father William Shou Nightingale was a wealthy landowner and her mother Frances Nightingale hailed from a family of wealthy merchants. She was always fond of helping poor and ill people.
Florence initial career : In Victorian era nursing was considered a low profession in England. She refused to marry at the age of 17 to pursue nursing. In 1850 Florence enrolled for two weeks of training and enrolled again in July 1851 for three months at the institution of Protestant Deaconesses in Kaiserswerth, Germany. Then she learned basic nursing skills such as the value of patient observation and good hospital organization.
Later Training : The later experience and training helped Nightingale to form her revolutionary theories. These proceeds as a boon of Nursing Education.
Major Contributions in Nursing Education :
A) Enhanced at Middeesex Hospital for governesses where Nightingale worked as a Supretendent.
B) She struggled their to control cholera outbreak and unsanitary conditions.
C) She made it a mission to improve the hygienic conditions,which significantly improve the mortality rate.
Immense contributions in Nursing Education:
A) Infection Control: She did it by cleaning entire hospital from top to bottom. This was possible because at that time, microbes and chain of infection was not known.
B) Assessments: She performed night visits to access the conditions of the patients.
C) Self Care: Nightingale required the least number of patients at hospital to assist in cleaning it.
D) Spiritually Nursing: Nightingale ministered to patients who were dying, bringing them comfort in last hours.
Recognisation and role in Nursing Education :
A) She was granted a prize of $2,50,000 from British Government and established St Thomas Hospital and The Nightingale Training School for Nurses.
B) In 1859 Florence Nightingale,published 136 books Page entitled Notes on Nursing .The book was very useful for nurses and based on how to deal with a sick patient.
