◆ various mating systems :-

1) monogamy :-

• it is the condition where both animal mates only with one another ( single male mates with single female )  
• eg. piegeons and swans (life long pairing ) but sometime swan mate with other partner instead of primary) .

2) polygamy :- it is the mating system where animals mates with multiple partners. It has following subtypes:-

a) polyandry :- it is the condition in which one female is mating to multiple males . Eg. Anglerfish (deep sea fish ) male anglerfish (small size ) bite female to combine both body for mating by releasing chemicals than male dies and eaten by female after reproduction.

b) polygyny :- in this mating one male mate with multiple females eg. Harems , leks

c) polygynandry :- in this type of mating multiple looser male and female mates with each other in group to prevent mating competition. Eg. Chimpanzees and banobos

3) promiscuity :- it is the condition in which mating with a number of partners on casual bases , like it is the condition of one night stand means lack of sex discrimination .

4) sperm competition :- (not a mating system ) it is male - male competition when more than one male mate with female in a short period of time , this start after releasing of sperm and competition to be the 1st to reach ( for fertilization ). Eg. Damselfly
