"Should you be checking your own oxygen levels if you have coronavirus symptoms?"
Explain and give further details about this timely issue, at least 300 words.
Corona virus is a type of RNA virus, which affects respiratory system of the person. Corona virus spreads through droplets, sneezing coughing, sharing foods from common utensils, Patient's clothings, coming contact with body fluid of the patient, blood, vomit of the patient etc. Common symptoms of Corona virus are Fever, breathing problem, gasping, muscle ache, weakness, absence of smell and taste, skin rashes. The main problem of Corona virus infection is respiratory distress because the virus at first attacks the epithelial cell of the nasal cavity and gradually propagate to the lungs. If the oxygen level of our body becomes low, the Patient will be suffering from respiratory distress, metabolic processes in our body will be hampered, all organ in our body will not get sufficient oxygen which causes appearance of necrotic area. On Recent study , it is found that the Patient can not detect the lowering of oxygen level in their body because they are not suffering from respiratory distress. It is known as silent hypoxia. This occurs because- Corona virus attacks lungs, blood vessels, brain. The virus affecting the respiratory center of the brain and reduce the brain's ability to recognise hypoxia, as a result breathing work of the lungs are not increased. The sensation of the lungs are diminished about the dropping of oxygen level in the body. As, respiratory distress is not occured, the Patient is not awared about his health condition. As, a result oxygen level is reduced in huge amount and multiple organ failure may occur, metabolic processes will decreases, appearance of cyanosis, fatigue may occur and death also occur.
So, any one should check his own oxygen level , if he has symptoms of Corona virus to detect oxygen level of his body. Pulse oximeter helps to detect the oxygen saturation of a patient and the Patient can check his own oxygen level by himself. Don't needs other help. Pulse oximeter is a non invasive, painless test and Patient gets instant result. It is a small clip like device, where any one finger of hands or legs should be attached. Then a small red beam light pass through the finger to the body and detect the oxygen level in the body. Oxygen saturation 95% indicates the normal oxygen level of the patient's body. 92% indicates the potential hypoxia. If oxygen saturation is less than 90%, doctor consultation is needed. Patient will improve with the help of supplementary oxygen through nasal cannula or mask.
